All dog rescue and dog care facilities should take the safety of the dogs and people in their care seriously. The entire team should know how to handle and prevent dog fights, how to prevent dog bites, and how to use safety equipment to keep both dogs and humans safe.

In this unique workshop, you will learn how to prevent dog fights and how to respond when they occur. In this presentation, we will discuss the best ways to prevent dog bites from occurring, working to minimize the amount of bite incidents seen in an organization. We will then discuss what to do when bite incidents do occur. This includes information on how to use safety equipment such as bite sticks, noise interrupters, and control poles, as well as the best way to separate dog fights and respond when dogs are biting people or other animals. There will also be the opportunity to ask questions so that participants will walk away feeling confident in what they have learned.

Your instructor for this workshop is Melissa Arbitman. Melissa is uniquely skilled at preventing and handling difficult dog situations. She is a certified professional trainer with many years of experience handling shelter dogs individually and in groups at Manhattan's Animal Care Centers (ACC). The ACC is the only shelter in NYC that takes in all dogs, no matter their behavior issues, so Melissa has seen it all. She also trains companion and therapy dogs in Manhattan, and she is well-versed in the needs and challenges faced by all dog owners.
